Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.
I have been married to my wonderful husband Morris for 44 years. We have 5 daughters and 7 grandchildren. We are members of a thriving Jewish community on the Jersey Shore.
What inspired you to become an artist?
In 2011, my youngest daughter Danielle wanted to spend some quality time together. She suggested taking an art class. I have always loved drawing and painting, and I was also thrilled that my 18-year-old wanted to spend time with me. So off we went! Little did I know that painting would become an all-consuming passion. Thank you, Danielle!
What is your specialty?
My specialty is large, abstract paintings in oils and acrylics. The bigger, the better. In between these large-scale commissions, I enjoy working in pastel and watercolor. I am interested in all types of mediums.
How and where do you work?
I work from home, constantly shifting from room to room. Changing my space continually allows me to work with new light and a fresh perspective. Also, I have found that I enjoy going back and forth from my daily routine to whichever piece I am working on at the drop of a hat.
What is the most indispensable item in your studio space?
My palette knives, definitely. I have grown to love them over the years, and I use them constantly.
Where do you take your inspiration? Are you pursuing any themes?
My inspiration comes from observing the world around me. Everything from nature, magazine layouts, television, sports, other artists, and people. I make inspiration boards and keep art notebooks to remind myself of the different ideas. Recently, I have started to incorporate Jewish themes into my abstract art.
Do you do bespoke work?
Yes, most of my work is bespoke work.
What projects are you currently working on?
I am currently working on Jewish themed abstract art, mini still life and landscape watercolors, and abstract geometrics in acrylic.
What are your favourite items in your current collection?
I love “Colorful Candelabra” and “Interlocking Circles,” because they are both intricate in their design and their contrasting colors. Frankly, I just enjoy looking at them.
How do you know when a piece is finished?
I know when I put down the brush or palette knife and sign the work. It just happens!
What was the first artwork you ever sold?
The first artwork I ever sold is called “On Fire”. A large red and black oil painting. Its bold and dramatic!
Which project have you enjoyed working on the most so far?
A few years ago, I painted a large-scale trio for the DSN Community Center in Oakhurst, NJ. Each painting is 7 ft tall x 4 ft wide and painted with bright, happy colors.
What do you want to achieve with your work and what are your wishes for the future?
I want to continue creating while growing even more proficient at what I do. I hope others will gain satisfaction from the art I produce.
Where can we find your work?
