Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.
My name is Gabriella and I was born in Jaffa, Israel. As I was 8 years old my parents moved to Munich, Germany, where I grew up. I lived in several German cities, now I´m based in Stuttgart. My two daughters study in Uppsala and Berlin, so I travel a lot to see them.
What inspired you to become an artist?
I started to paint as a child and I was always supported by my parents. They loved the pictures and were very proud – of course: I was their child… every mother or father love the result of their child´s handcraft…
Later I found out, that I want to make people happy with using my paintings to beautify their home or to make third happy by sending my cards as congratulations.
What is your specialty?
Star of David
How and where do you work?
I work in the office-room in my apartment: there I can spread my utensils and don’t have to move them. Sometimes I like to listen to the music, but most of the time not.
What is the most indispensable item in your studio space?
My paintbox of “Schmincke”. And of course the pencils and brushes.
Where do you take your inspiration? Are you pursuing any themes?
I like to watch people and that inspires me in a coloured kind. I love going through the nature, look at all the colours you rarely can imitate in your palette.
The highest inspiration is that there is a high silence and serenity spreading in me while painting.
Do you do bespoke work?
No, never.
What projects are you currently working on?
Greeting cards
What is your favourite item in your current collection?
The Hamsa
How do you know when a piece is finished?
It´s a feeling. You must know: NOW. Then you simply stop.
What was the first artwork you ever sold?
A watercolour painting of a nature scene for a cappuccino.
Which project have you enjoyed working on the most so far?
Every project has its own history. Can´t tell which one I enjoyed most, because I enjoyed everyone in a special way.
What do you want to achieve with your work and what are your wishes for the future?
Jewish roots are worth to remember. I want to be a tool for making people happy with my products. There is always a big symbolism in all Jewish paintings, handcraft etc. I try to be a part of it.
I wish artists would be able to live through their art
