Rooted in superstition, there is no consensus amongst historians where exactly the Hamsa originated. It may have been in modern day Tunisia, Ancient Egypt, or Iraq. Being one of the most beloved protective symbols across the Middle East and Northern African, it doesn’t surprise us that it has been adopted by many different cultures around the world as a symbol of protection, prosperity, health and good luck. It found its way into Jewish culture through the Sephardic Jewish community on the Spanish Peninsula.
The Hamsa has always been worn as an amulet in one way or another and even today many people decide to wear it as a jewellery piece.
We have put together a small selection of designs we believe you would enjoy.
