10 Reasons Why We Love Winter

Snow

The moment the first snow falls we turn into little children who drop everything they are doing to run outside. We firmly believe that you have to experience the first snow of the season while outdoors. Even if you are only stepping out on to the balcony for a moment. We simply love winter! Is there more magical season?

Winter Sunrise

Admiring a gorgeous winter sunrise is the only way to start a day right. Imagine yourself preparing a cup of tea, coffee, or even hot cocoa with marshmallows if you want, and enjoying it while looking outside the window. Taking a moment for yourself to observe the nature around you will help you ground yourself wonderfully.

Winter Wardrobe

Gloves, scarves, hats, cashmere coats, woollen jumpers, winter boots – do we have to say more? We are always amused when people complain to us during summer that it is too hot for them, to then complain during the winter months that it is much too cold, and they are constantly freezing. Let us be as pragmatic as we can here, in winter you can dress for the cold. In summer… well, you don’t want to be the person who ends up in the news because they have decided that it would be a glorious idea to be in the nude going into town.

Going for a walk

There is nothing more beautiful in this entire world than going for a long walk during winter. We are not just talking about walking down a shimmering path of freshly fallen snow. Think about all the picturesque wintery landscapes and the medieval cities covered in snow that look as if someone had sugar coated all the buildings.

Silence

If you have the opportunity to spend some time in the countryside during the winter months, we highly recommend you doing so. You will love the silence! There is nothing like it. No cars, no people, no music, absolutely nothing, only the sound of your steps while out. Sometimes all we need to ground ourselves is to be alone with our thoughts in the middle of nowhere for a while.

Building Snowmen and Making Snow Angels

Do you remember the last time you threw yourself into a pile of snow in your garden (read: public park) to make a snow angel? Or the last time you had a snowball fight? How about building a snowman (read: entire snow village)? You may want to build your snowman, or even an entire snow village, before you start with your snow angels for practical reasons.

Magical Winter Nights Admiring the Northern Lights

Many people will never be able to see the Aurora Borealis in real life but if you live in an area where they are common, or happen to visit a place like this at the right time of the year, we urge you to go outside and to observe this magnificent spectacle.

Winter Sports

The coldest day of the year are the most beautiful ones. You will never see a brighter blue throughout the year. Crisp and clear. Perfect to practice winter sports such as skiing, snowboarding, ice skating and especially cross-country skiing. Yes, a fun slay ride must be on the list as well! Even snowshoeing. Add curling while we are at it.

Reading in front of a Fireplace

Having a fireplace in your home is fantastic, being able to use it even more so! We yet have to meet a person who does not enjoy curling up under their favourite blanket in front of the fireplace reading a good book on a cold winter evening.
